The panels were fitted towards the end of February thanks to an £18,000 grant from the Just Transition participatory budgeting fund.

Alan Anderson is the leader of 1st Lossiemouth Scout Group, which puts on activities for 60 girls as well as boys from the ages of six upwards.

He said: “The panels are helping to reduce our carbon footprint by ensuring a supply of green energy. Added to that they’re also reducing our running costs.”

Since February 22 the exact reduction in carbon dioxide emissions has been 364 kilogrammes.

Alan has been involved with 1st Lossiemouth Scouts for nearly 35 years, passing right the way through beavers, cubs and scouts, before beginning as an adult volunteer.

He said: “It’s great to watch the progress of the kids. Some are really shy when they first come along, but they’re all soon joining in with the games and enjoying themselves.

“They get to learn some really useful life-skills at the same time as having fun.

“I’d like to thank the parents and the trustees who put together this bid. It’s the first grant we’ve ever had for such a large amount of money.

“We have plans in mind for how we’d like to develop the scout hall further, so we’re now keeping our eyes open for any other potential funding opportunities.

“I’d also like to thank the team of adult volunteers we have here. They are an amazingly capable and enthusiastic group of people.”

The 1st Lossiemouth Scout Group meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the scout hall on Elgin Road.
