An apprentice joiner has lost his driving licence after failing a breath test.

Samuel Wakeford was spotted by police officers on a patrol of Lossiemouth at 1.05am on August 13.

They witnessed the 18-year-old, who was driving a blue Ford Focus, turn off Coulardbank Road and onto Community Way.

As the teenager did so he drove on the wrong side of the carriageway.

The police followed and, further along on Boyd Anderson Drive, they saw Wakeford's vehicle hit the kerb.

A breath test gave a reading of 48, compare to the legal limit of 22.

Wakeford, whose address was given in court papers as Muirton Road, Lossiemouth, pleaded guilty to a single charge of drink driving.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood imposed a 12-month ban, which could be reduced to nine months, provided the teenager pays for and passes a drink driving awareness course.

The sheriff also handed out a £570 fine.
