A LOSSIEMOUTH 67 year old claimed he was not a paedophile despite downloading indecent videos of children as young as one year old being sexually abused.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald heard the case at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Iain Kenneth of Macduff Street appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted downloading and possessing five videos of the most extreme kind on his mobile phone and laptop devices which were seized by police.

Further analysis also discovered another two images and a video of children between the ages of three and seven.

They were all downloaded between November 12, 2021 and June 12, 2022.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald heard that police received intelligence that the material had been accessed and Kenneth's house was raided on August 8, 2022.

Fiscal depute Pauline Gair told the court: "He said to police: 'I am really not what you think I am. I got this idea in my head after I saw some Tik Tok videos about people that hunt paedophiles. In hindsight, it was a bad idea. It's so easy to find them.'

Defence solicitor Robert Cruickshank said: "He is a family man although separated from his wife for 15 years.

"But he still affords a caring obligation for his wife two or three days a week.

"Sending him to jail would have an impact on her.

"It was a very low number of images and he knows he should not have embarked on this course.

"He puts it down to stress."

Sheriff Macdonald decided against a custodial sentence but as an alternative, placed him under three years of social work supervision.

He was added to the Sex Offender's Register for the same period.

He must also participate in a sex offender's rehabilitation programme.
