A PARAMEDIC has been recognised for outstanding dedication to his profession at the Moray and Banffshire Heroes Awards.
Kris O'Neil, from Lossiemouth, won the Emergency Services Award at the ceremony – although he admitted he was surprised to be nominated.
"It was a massive surprise," he said. "I got a phone call out of the blue to say I'd been nominated and I was blown away.
"I'm not a hero, I just do a job but I'm very proud and privileged to do the job I do."
While Kris won the Emergency Services Award, he was also runner-up in the Fundraising category.
He has raised more than £35,000 for charity since setting up the well-known Cannonbawz Run in Elgin to raise funds for the Marfan Trust.
Kris' brother Liam, who sadly died last year, lived with Marfan Syndrome.
"It was difficult after Liam passed away to decide whether I should keep the charity going but now I want to," he added.
"My brother is my absolute hero, he's been my inspiration throughout life to press on and raise money for the Marfan Trust.
"We've met so many lovely people over the years and raised over £35,000, which is just absolutely incredible."
