A call to "adopt a neighbour or two" is meeting with a terrific response amongst folk in Lossiemouth.

.

The town's community council put out the plea to make sure that none of the people in most are forgotten during the current crisis.

Gina McNicoll, who sits on the council, said: "Like so many others we are primarily focusing on trying to coordinate various strands of Government and Moray Council advice, as well as information from charities and local business and circulating that amongst the community.

"We have a nightly newsletter from Monday to Friday which we release through our Facebook page. "However, as many may not be on Facebook, we are asking and relying on neighbours, family or friends to print the newsletter and distribute it to those around them – there is a printable format.

"The community council is also supporting Lossiemouth COVID-19 Befriending and Elderly Support Group.

"This works through a Facebook page which was founded by Cal Banbury, a Lossiemouth resident, and to date it has over 1000 members.

"On a daily basis people post offers of help, pass on essential shopping requirements, gardening, dog walking.

"It is stressed that all those volunteering their help are required to take the necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and those they are assisting."

Gina says that with the closure of the community centre, Lossiemouth Baptist Church has become the distribution hub for Moray Food Plus,

Anyone able to donate items should continue to do so at both the town’s large and small Co-op supermarkets.

She continued: "Community and neighbourly support are essential in these unimaginable circumstances.

"On one hand, the community council is liaising closely with Lossiemouth Trust, Lossiemouth Business Association and other local organisations.

"On the other, we are relying on our wonderful community spirit by asking everyone to 'adopt a neighbour or two'.

"On behalf of everyone in Lossiemouth, we thank our local businesses and all those who are providing essential services.

"They are having to adapt to meet the daily challenges. They deserve our gratitude and respect .

"Thank you to everyone in the Lossiemouth community who is playing their part. We could not do this without you.

"Once again, please keep a look out for anyone who lives on their own who are in isolation."
