A 31-year-old woman who spat in the face of a door steward after she was thrown out of an Elgin bar has been ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid community work.

Mia Anderson of Inchbroom Avenue, Lossiemouth previously admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court the charge of assault and sentence was deferred for a background report.

Sheriff Sara Matheson was told that the incident occurred at the Granary on August 27, 2021.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said: "She was involved in an altercation and was escorted out. She made attempts to re-enter numerous times and when the security guard approached her, she spat in his face.

"She was intoxicated at the time." Mr Weir added.

Defence solicitor Brent Lockie said: "She was on a night out with friends and had too much to drink. She was in a difficult relationship but fortunately it is now over.

"It is good to see in the report that she is extremely remorseful, deeply ashamed and embarrassed and it is clear that the remorse and contrition is genuine.

"The last time she was in trouble was 12 years ago and there are no outstanding matters."

Sheriff Matheson also placed Anderson on a year's social work supervision which she said may involve assistance with the alcohol issue.
