A MEN'S choir has marked its 6th anniversary by presenting £2500 to good causes.

The Glen Moray Male Voice Choir was formed in September 2013 and has since raised more than £25,000 for charity.

This week, members added to that total by presenting £1500 to Prostrate Cancer UK following a Spring Concert, held in Elgin in April.

It included a mixed repertoire from spirituals and folk pieces to songs from the stage and screen, led by musical director Jane Ferguson with accompaniment by Isobel Burnie.

The national charity was nominated by one of the choir's 65 singers to receive proceeds from the event – a suggestion which received unanimous backing.

A further £1000 was also presented to Moray Food Plus after members learned of the choir's healthy finances at their latest committee meeting.

Treasurer Ken Ferguson said: "The members of Glen Moray Male Voice Choir are delighted to be able to support two such important charities.

"We are fortunate to have been able to make significant donations to both a local and a national charity.

"Both charities were recommended from within the choir. Not only do we enjoy our singing and performing, but we get great pleasure from supporting other groups and charities."

The choir has gone from strength to strength since its establishment six years ago, entertaining hundreds and raising thousands.

But the main focus remains friendship and any man who enjoys singing, or thinks he would like to give it a go, is welcome.

Singers meet every Thursday evening at Bishopmill Primary School in Elgin.
