Elderly man airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as van collides with mobility scooter in Elgin

AN ELDERLY man has been airlifted to hospital after his mobility scooter collided with a van in the Bishopmill area of Elgin this morning.

The accident took place outside the Co-op on North Street, with the man then taken to the park near Brodie Drive where the air ambulance landed to take him to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Police were in attendance and confirmed that the man has suffered a leg injury.

A spokesperson said: “At around 9.45am, police received a report of an elderly man injured after his mobility scooter collided with a van on North Street in Elgin.

“Emergency services attended and the elderly man has been taken by Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a leg injury.

"The van driver was uninjured.

“The road is currently closed and enquiries into the circumstances of the incident continue.”

A spokesperson for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance added: "We took a call at 9.50am and travelled from Aberdeen with the specialist clinical team.

"We landed in a park and were able to access the scene. We airlifted the gentleman to the major trauma centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
