Man arrested after alleged sexual assault in Elgin

A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault in central Elgin.

The High Street close between the Royal Bank of Scotland and The Victoria Bar was closed off on Saturday, September 28 after the alleged incident.

Police Scotland thanked local residents for their assistance in the enquiry.

A spokesperson said: "As a result of extensive enquiries Police Scotland can confirm that a 31-year-old man has been arrested and is due to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on charges relating to sexual offences.

"This is in relation to a report received by officers on September 28 of a woman being the victim of sexual offences.

"Detective Sergeant Milton of the Public Protection Unit in Elgin would like to thank members of the public for their assistance which led to the arrest and would like to assure them that offences of this nature are rare in Moray.”
