A MAN has died following a house fire at Connage Cottages, near Buckie.

Fire crews were alerted just after 6am to the incident, later being stood down at 9.38am.

Stevie Nesbit, On-Call Duty Officer for North Service Delivery Area within the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We were alerted at 6.06am on Tuesday, March 19, to reports of a house fire at Connage Cottages in Buckie, Moray.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and unfortunately, a male was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends, and the wider community at this difficult time.

“A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland colleagues is now ongoing.”

The road beyond the cottages remained sealed off by police for some time afterwards as investigations were undertaken.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 6.35am on Tuesday, March 19 we were made aware of a fire at a property near the A98 outside Buckie.

"Emergency services attended and a 74-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

"The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
