A man has been ordered to pay £400 in compensation to a woman he headbutted.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that Kevin Sandison's victim was a friend of his former partner.

Both women were among a group who, on Sunday, August 13, had gone into a bar in Lossiemouth to listen to some live music.

While they were there Kevin Sandison walked into the same venue.

Procurator fiscal Karen Poke said: "The accused went and sat on his own at the other end of the bar.

"One of the witnesses went to speak with him.

"The witness said that him being there was making his former partner feel uncomfortable."

Ms Poke added that Sandison and his ex-partner then went outside, where they were joined by the victim.

The court heard that the victim had begun to take him to task about things he'd said concerning her husband.

At this point Sandison "swung back his head and butted her in the face".

The blow left the woman with a bloody nose.

Sandison, who's aged 63 and lives on Pitgaveny Quay, Lossiemouth, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault.

Defence solicitor Grant Daglish said his client had no idea the others would be in the bar when he walked in.

The lawyer added: "His position is that he was having a civilised talk with his ex-partner.

"However, he accepts that he lost his temper with the other woman.

"It's a matter of great regret to Mr Sandison. He'd like to take the opportunity to pass on his apologies through the courts."

Sanderson was ordered to pay £400 in compensation.
