A FIFE man has been ordered to avoid contact with his former partner for the next year and carry out 240 hours of unpaid work after a romantic weekend in Elgin turned violent.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 20 year old Jordan McRobbie of Bruce Street, Dunfermline and his girlfriend travelled north on April 15, 2022 and booked into the Premier Inn.
However, the weekend became violent after McRobbie and the woman returned after drinking in various licensed premises and "an argument ensued."
Fiscal depute Robert Weir said: "He then threw items around the room and punched a mirror."
Sheriff Gary Aitken was told that security heard the late night disturbance, investigated and then called the police.
McRobbie then left the hotel and when confronted by police, he became abusive and threatened to "choke any police officer that comes near me."
He was then arrested in nearby Ashgrove Road where he bit a constable on the body.
Mr Weir said a PAVA incapacitant spray had to be used and McRobbie spat in the direction of the police.
He admitted two charges of threatening or abusive behaviour, assault to injury and culpable and reckless conduct.
Defence solicitor Grant Daglish told the court: "Alcohol was clearly involved. It is not an excuse but an explanation.
"When he sobered up his responses to the police were all apologies. He accepts his conduct was inappropriate especially towards the police who were just doing their job."
Sheriff Aitken told McRobbie: "This was no way to behave towards your partner or the police officers. This could easily merit a prison sentence."
