A NEW leaflet is out highlighting exciting events taking place in Forres over the summer.

The ‘Forres Connected - Culture and Heritage’ booklet also features a town map and puts a spotlight on local landmarks.

The pamphlet to be distributed throughout the area was funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via a £20,000 grant secured by Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) and Forres Heritage Trust (FHT).

FACT development manager Michelle Gillibrand is thrilled with the result.

She said: “We’ve worked with other local organisations to produce this exciting leaflet. It pulls so much of what is going on into one booklet, making it easy for people to see the wealth of activities on offer.

“Having as much as we could in one publication, has highlighted Forres being such a vibrant place to live.”

She added: “The area is rich in history, including many iconic buildings, landmarks and assets.

“FACT and FHT, alongside other groups in the town including the Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme are exploring how these can be better promoted. The leaflet is the start.”

The funding has also allowed for a Heritage Information Hub to be established at Forres Town Hall. It is now open from Monday to Fridays from 10am to 3pm.

Michelle explained: “We are delighted to be creating the hub in the foyer. It will act as a mini tourist office, where anyone can get information about everything that is going on in the town. “Some of our partners are also going to be using it as a booth to sell tickets or take bookings for their own events. It will become a vibrant space.”

The groups currently involved are Highland Youth Theatre, Leanchoil Trust, Findhorn Bay Arts, St John’s Church, Film Forres, Friends of the Falconer Museum, Forres Area Business Association, Forres Area Tourism Network, HA HA (Helen Avenell Heritage Associates) and individuals involved in the Forres Highland Games, Grant Park 100 and the British Pipe Band Championships.

FHT chairman George Alexander is pleased to see so many members of the community working together.

He said: “This first project is demonstrating that Forres has groups, charities and organisations who are creating something that will benefit the whole town.”
