CHARITY Marie Curie is calling for volunteers in Moray to give up some of their free time to help their fundraising efforts.

The charity, which helps those living with a terminal illness, is looking for Moray locals to give up two hours to hand out daffodil pins in return for donations.

Volunteers will be supporting the Marie Curie's biggest campaign – the Great Daffodil Appeal – which is held every March.

Maggy Sabiston, from the Moray Fundraising Group, said: "I collect every year for the Great Daffodil Appeal and it is a great feeling to be supporting such an important cause.

"I have met so many kind and interesting people along the way – many of whom have directly benefited from the care provided by Marie Curie nurses in their own homes."

It is hoped £700,000 can be raised in Scotland. Last year, donations helped Marie Curie provide care to more than 7500 people living with a terminal illness across Scotland.

Around £6 million was raised in 2019 and £120 million in total has been raised since the campaign began in 1986. Eight million daffodil pins are distributed every year.

Vonnie Stevenson, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Moray, said: "Volunteering just two hours at a local collection is a great way to show your support and help us raise money to make sure we can be there for more people at the end of their lives.

"Collecting can be a lot of fun too. You can do it on your own or with family and friends, and we will support you every step of the way."

Marie Curie support isn’t just for people with cancer. Other terminal conditions include heart and circulatory, Alzheimer’s (including dementia) and chronic respiratory disease.
