Martin Clunes has been announced as president of the World Clydesdale Show which is taking place in the North East.

.

The actor and presenter, who owns two of the breed himself, will be attending all four days of the show at the P&J Live in Aberdeen between October 20 and 23.

He said: "Like a lot of people I get a gut punch when I see Clydesdale horses, so to be present at a world show with horses from all over the world is just too exciting.

"I am also very happy to show off my boys – Ronnie and Bruce.

"1'm just crossing my fingers that they behave themselves."

More than 300 hundred Clydesdales will be at the show, along with 21,000 spectators over the course of the four days.

The first ever World Clydesdale Show was staged during 2007 in Wisconsin.

Since that date it has only ever been held in US or Canada.

However, bringing it home to Scotland has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm in equestrian circles.

First identified as a separate breed in the mid 18th Century, Clydedales were relied upon during the early days of industrial revolution for working in industry and agriculture due to both their strength and gentle temperament.

Numbers dwindled after the use of machinery become the norm, but the breed continues to make appearances at agricultural shows up and down the country.

Martin Clunes has made two documentary series about horses – Horsepower, which was screened in 2010, followed three years later by Heavy Horsepower.

He has also been the President of the British Horse Society for the past decade.
