A MULTI-AGENCY meeting over road safety on the A96 in Brodie has been labelled "very constructive".

The meeting was organised by Moray's SNP MSP Richard Lochhead, with Transport Scotland, Police Scotland and Amey in attendance.

Local residents raised concerns about road safety on the stretch of the A96 going through the village after several incidents in summer.

The speed limit, currently 50mph, has been a particular point of discussion – along with road signage and markings.

After the meeting, which took place on-site on September 30, Transport Scotland committed to carrying out a speed survey and Amey will review signage.

Mr Lochhead said: “Many local residents contacted me expressing concern following the recent spate of road traffic accidents at Brodie on the A96.

“I was grateful to the authorities for joining me at Brodie to discuss the issues and to allow me to convey the many concerns and views expressed by local residents about speeding and road signage.

“Concerns understandably escalated over the summer when there were three road traffic accidents in a very short period of time.

"Local residents and businesses are keen to see action taken to improve road safety given that the busy A96 runs through the village.

“The meeting was very constructive with the authorities committing to a new speed survey and also review the roads signage.

"Various factors can be behind road accidents, including driver error, but I very much look forward to seeing the outcome of the review that will now be conducted as a result of our meeting and the concerns expressed by my constituents.”
