THE Minister for Local Government and Planning has praised Moray Council’s service delivery plans during a tour of the area.

Aileen Campbell MSP visited the authority’s new joint child protection unit, which has been funded by Moray Council and Grampian Police, and the conversion of the former Safeway supermarket in Elgin to a new customer access point and office accommodation.

Both are due for completion within the next two months.

Speaking after the tour, she said: "I had a super day visiting Moray Council and hearing about a lot of the innovative plans they have to make sure that service delivery in Moray is benefitting the people. End users will benefit from the new buildings that are here in Elgin.

"They will be first class facilities, both for children and young people and for all the people of the area."

Ms Campbell acknowledged the pressure on local authorities to make savings, but said efficiencies must not result in diminished services.
