A MORAY mum is launching a madcap effort to make the Guinness Book of Records by bouncing on a Space Hopper for more than five miles in a single day.

Part-time model and recent Miss Aberdeen contestant Kelly Willis will do her bizarre world record attempt on her 26th birthday next month, to raise cash and awareness for two cancer charities.

The mum-of-two is bidding to bounce all the way from her home town of Lossiemouth along the cycle route to Elgin, and break the record of five miles set in New York last year.

Kelly hopes fellow Moray Space Hopper enthusiasts, children and families will join in the fun on August 17 when she bids for her place in history.

“I’ve always said there’s a few things I wanted to do before I turn 30, and one was to break a world record,” she said. “I’m quite good on a Space Hopper and both my kids have one so I’m always having a shot on theirs.

“I’ve never done six miles on one before, but then again no-one has. People think I’m mad doing this, but they are also giving me support, because it’s for two good causes.”

The Lossie lass is a staunch supporter of Cahonas Scotland, a men’s health charity which she discovered after her late grandfather developed two types of cancer during his life.

She recently held an awareness event for the charity at her local Beach Bar as part of her entry into Miss Aberdeen, a beauty contest which she did in memory of her grandfather.

Her efforts to organise a fun night for Cahonas helped her to win the ‘Most Inspiring’ award at the beauty pageant, and she has now won a place in the more prestigious Miss Year competition later this year.
