MUSICALS fans are in for a treat this weekend as local performers make their full show debut.

The Moray Operatic and Dramatic Society (MODS) is bringing the world of musical theatre to Moray, performing ‘And the Winner is…’ at Forres Town Hall at 7.30pm on Friday, January 19 and Lossiemouth Town Hall on Saturday, January 20.

MODS secretary and director Fiona Grant hopes as many people as possible enjoy a total of 35 songs, many of which have been staged and/or choreographed by cast members to gain experience and confidence.

She said: “You’ll have fun, see how fun amateur theatre can be, and go away looking forward to our next show!

“Since The MODS was established last summer, we have enjoyed meeting and working with new people with the same love for singing, dancing and theatre in an inviting, inclusive and friendly atmosphere.”

MODS members’ ages range from 14 to 80-years-old. And the Winner is… has a team of 18 aged 25 to 65 from all over the area.

“Every member is excited to share their passion with audiences,” added Mrs Grant, “and everyone has at least one moment to shine!”

MODS previously performed 30-minute sets at Pride in Moray and the Elgin BID Christmas lights switch-on.

“They were really good experiences,” said Mrs Grant.

And the Winner is… features songs from stage musicals that have been nominated for or won a prestigious Olivier or Tony award.

Spanning the decades, these include ‘I Hate Men’ from 1948’s ‘Kiss me Kate’ and ‘Magic to Do’ from the 1972 musical ‘Pippin’ up to the latest musical ‘Frozen’.

Director Ms Grant and musical director Murray Speirs are active members of And the Winner is… cast, too.

Mrs Grant has been involved in more than 50 productions over the last 35 years both on and off stage.

Mr Speirs is a retired musician who worked in bands and ensembles around the world, as well as on theatre tours.
