THE community heroes of Moray and Banffshire will be honoured tonight.

The inaugural Moray and Banffshire Heroes 2019 will take place at the Mansefield Hotel in Elgin.

A total of 13 different awards are up for grabs to people who have made a real difference in their communities or public life and gone the extra mile to help others.

SPP media editorial director David Bourn said: "There are so many men, women and young people who have made such an impact in their communities through their hard work.

"It will be an honour to recognise those who have done so much to make Moray and Banffshire a better place to live."

The winners will be announced at a VIP dinner tonight.

Inverness Airport is headline sponsor of the awards.

The categories are Brave Child of the Year, Primary Pupil of the Year, Secondary Pupil of the Year, Primary Teacher of the Year, Secondary Teacher of the Year, Carer of the Year, Fundraiser of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Community Champion, Health Professional, Emergency services or Armed Forces Hero and Public Servant of the Year.

There will also be an overall award for the Hero of Heroes.
