A MORAY band went the extra mile for a positive review, by shipping their first vinyl record all the way to Australia.

I Will Take You Hunting (IWTYH), who play electronica-tinged punk, are releasing third album Not Broken in April.

However, leading up to release day, they decided to lay their tunes down on vinyl for the first time.

In an effort to spread the word, singer Steve Simms said, the band decided to send a test pressing across the world to Australian reviewer Nate Goyer, behind blog and podcast The Vinyl Guide.

While he had warm words for the music itself, the music writer was shocked that it survived its epic voyage despite being housed in “woefully flimsy cardboard” and lacking a sleeve, cover art, song titles or lyrics.

Mr Goyer writes: "The label was from Scotland. I’m in Australia.

“That’s literally the opposite side of the world.

“This package couldn’t have travelled a further distance.

“And the rocket scientist who packed it couldn’t have prepared it worse for the journey.

“The fact it arrived in a playable state is a credit to the global postal service who somehow didn’t make the effort to snap the record in half somewhere on its journey.”

However, the review adds: “The band is fun – promising in a way that makes me want to keep an eye out for them and hope beyond reason they’ll play in Australia one day.

“But until then, we’ll have to order their records and enjoy them remotely.

“Let’s hope they get as good at packaging records as they are at making them.”

Mr Simms said that a recently-opened Scottish vinyl plant had opened the door to his band’s music appearing on vinyl.

He added that using Seabass Vinyl, in East Lothian, made it faster and cheaper to have records produced.

Not Broken will be released on April 19, 2024, through distributor Last Night From Glasgow, and can be pre-ordered now.

Alongside the vinyl, the album will also be available on CD and to download.

IWTYH are on a mini tour, kicking off with an album launch party at the Carlton Hotel in Forres on April 20.

The band will then play The Flying Duck in Glasgow on April 26 and The Bandstand in Nairn supporting Moray band The Fragz on May 11.
