The Zebecks made 'Out of the Dust' last October under unusual circumstances at Unity Recording Studios in Auldearn.

Unable to play together because of the Covid restrictions, the band's four members had to go into the studio two at a time.

Max Robertson (bass) and Aiden Smith (drums) laid down their parts first.

Daniel Thomson (guitar and vocals) and Hayden Peace (lead guitar) then came in later to play on top of the tracks.

However, the band are more than happy with the results.

Daniel jokes: "We think it's got a bit of a lockdown vibe about it.

"It was a weird way to record but it's turned out well so we're really pleased."

The Zebecks, who are all aged 18, are all on the cusp of heading down to Glasgow.

Aiden, Daniel and Max are going to university there, while Hayden will be studying sound production at Kelvin College.

However they intend to continue as a band.

Daniel says: "All four of us like different types of music but we tend to blend well, not just as a band but as people.

"We are good friends as well."

Aiden and Daniel have known each other since they were aged just four, and have been jamming together for the past six years.

They became the Zebecks after Hayden and Max joined up a couple of years ago.

Daniel explains the inspiration for the band's name came from a visit to HMV in Inverness when he was quite a bit younger.

He says: "I was looking through the record shelves and apart from ZZ Top and the Zutons there was an almost complete lack of Zs.

"I decided if I was ever in band it would be easier to stand out if our name started with that letter."

Apart from the excitement over the release of their debut EP, the band say they're still "buzzing" from a gig they played at Kirkies bar in Elgin this past Sunday – the first they've been able to play for months.

Their next date is September 17 at Cafe Drummonds in Aberdeen.
