Cadets from Moray and Nairnshire have been crowned Champion Company – for the third year in a row – at their Battalion’s Annual Camp.
Almost 280 cadets from 1st Battalion the Highlanders, which covers the Highlands, Moray, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, have returned from their two week Annual Camp last Friday, held this year at Warcop in Cumbria.
A total of 62 cadets from Moray Company, which has detachments in Elgin, Forres, Nairn, Ardersier and Culloden, spent the majority of the fortnight working on their cadet training progressing onto the next level of the syllabus.
During the evenings there were competitions between the companies and battery. Some of the competitions required skills taught from the syllabus, while others were just to encourage friendly rivalry such as football and swimming.
The final day with the prize giving, which saw Moray Company pick up several of the major trophies – including the male and female football trophies, shooting and best drill commander trophy – as well as several individual medals. The final trophy that was presented was the Champion Company Trophy ‘Hector’ which was presented to Cadet Colour Sergeant Rachael Oglivie (17) from the Forres Detachment.
After a well-deserved break for the summer the company will be reopening their detachments for normal training the week, commencing Monday August 19.
