A MORAY care home resident has tested positive for coronavirus while in hospital.

Parklands Care Homes, which runs Glenisla Care Home in Keith, today confirmed a woman with underlying health conditions tested positive for the virus last week.

The woman was in hospital receiving treatment for said health condition when she tested positive.

After a brief period in intensive care, the resident remains in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and is responding well to treatment.

It is not known where she contracted covid-19, however, Parklands added, there are no confirmed cases inside the home.

A statement reads: "We can confirm that a resident from Glenisla Care Home has tested positive for covid-19 while in hospital. We wish our dear friend a speedy recovery.

"At this time, there are no confirmed cases of covid-19 in Glenisla, and no residents or staff showing any symptoms consistent with the virus.

"Residents are all in good spirits."

Local councillors were notified of the case on Friday, May 1, with the update on her condition provided on Monday, May 4.

The care home is following all expert advice and hopes members of staff and residents can be tested for coronavirus in the near future.

"We are continuing to follow the expert advice of NHS Grampian, Moray Council and the Care Inspectorate in order to mitigate any risk to other residents," the statement added.

"In line with national guidelines, residents are being isolated in their own rooms and are receiving the highest quality care from our professional team who are doing everything possible to ensure the welfare of our beloved residents.

"Relatives have been informed and are being encouraged to make regular phone and video calls to their loved ones.

"We have made representations to NHS Grampian that residents and staff be tested, in line with the statement to that effect by the First Minister, and await further detail as to how this testing regime will be rolled out."

As of 2pm today, there are 41 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Moray and 846 across Grampian.
