Moray celebrates Scottish Book Week

HISTORICAL crime fans will be well served when libraries across Moray celebrates Book Week Scotland.

The author Shona 'S.G.' MacLean will visit Forres Library next Tuesday at 7pm to talk about her latest novel in The Seeker series, The Bear Pit.

Set in Cromwellian London, the series features the enigmatic Captain Dominic Seeker.

Shona, who is the niece of Scotland's most successful thriller writer Alistair MacLean, is also the creator of the acclaimed Alexander Seaton series, set in Banff and Aberdeen in the 1620s.

Two nights later, on Thursday, November 21, Margaret Kirk will deliver a talk – 'Murder in Mind' – at Lossiemouth Library from 7pm

Margaret lives in Inverness and writes Highland Noir Scottish crime fiction set in her home town.

Her tense and atmospheric debut novel, Shadow Man, received praise from Scottish crime writing legend Val McDermid.

The second book in her DI Lukas Mahler series, What Lies Buried, was published in June.

On a different note, Professor Peter Reid, of Robert Gordon University will be at Keith Library on Thursday, November 21, at 7pm to talk about his recent work relating to all things Doric.

Join the ‘Doric Blethers’ session for a spot of reminiscence and a wee fly cup.

Meanwhile, younger book fans are invited to find their cosiest pyjamas, and bring their teddy along to Elgin Library for Bedtime Stories in the Gallery from 6pm-6.45pm on Wednesday, November 20. The session will include songs, rhymes and stories with a sleepy theme.

Bedtime Stories and Doric Blethers are both free events.
