A LOCAL festive highlight will return this year as Moray Concert Brass players tune up for their charity carol concert.

The musicians will be back on the streets of Elgin and Lossiemouth this December to help get shoppers into the Christmas spirit after the pandemic halted many of last year's seasonal events.

Moray Concert Brass has performed in the run-up to every Christmas for two decades.

This year the band will be raising funds for Alzheimer Scotland, which provides support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families. With Dementia Resource Centres across Scotland, the charity's aim is to make sure no one faces dementia alone.

Moray Concert Brass musical director Glenn Munro said: "Alzheimer Scotland is a fantastic charity, working in our community, and we hope to raise lots of money for them to continue their vital work."

The band will be in full swing on the Green in Lossiemouth, on Saturday, December 18, from noon-12.45pm.

They will set up outside the Co-op on Queen Street. Along with Lossie 2-3 Group and Outfit Moray, the band has been selected to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund, so Co-op members can raise money for the three local causes by buying selected branded products and services over the next 10 months.

The musicians will head to Elgin later on in the day to perform outside St Giles Church on the Plainstones, from 4.30pm.

There Christmas shoppers and Farmers Market-goers can join local ministers Jenny Adams and Christine McWhirter, who use to play in the band herself, in enjoying some festive favourites and carols.

The band's last charity carol concert in 2019 was held in Cooper Park in aid of the high dependency unit at Dr Gray's Hospital.

Always on the lookout for new members, players of all ages and abilities who fancy becoming part of a fun musical group are encouraged to get in touch with Mr Munro at glennmunro42@gmail.com, or pop along to say hello at the carol concert. The band has some instruments it can lend out.
