Members of Moray Council are going to be asked to appoint a leader who will alsa act as the local authority's convener.

In addition, the proposed council shake-up would see two new roles created – that of deputy leader and civic leader.

The civic leader would carry out ceremonial duties for the council rather than, as at present, the convener.

Bridget Mustard (Heldon and Laich, Conservtive) has put forward a motion at tomorrow's meeting of the full council to change the leadership structure.

She said: "It’s really a tidy-up and a reappraisal of all the things that have gone down.

"It’s how can everybody’s best skills and abilities can be used, and reflect the changes that have been made."

Cllr Marc Macrae (Fochabers/Lhanbryde, Conservative) stepped down as convener last week, vowing to clear his name following complaints about his behaviour.

If he had not resigned the role he would have faced a vote of no confidence at tomorrow's meeting.

Meanwhile, there have also been issues surrounding Cllr Neil McLennan (Buckie, Conservative), who was removed from the role of co-leader of Moray's Conservative group.

However, Cllr McLennan currently remains the co-leader of the council – although that situation could change during tomorrow's meeting.

Kathleen Robertson (Forres, Conservative) is co-leader of the council.
