MORAY Council’s festive Free After Three parking promotion will run for its seventh consecutive year.

Councillors today agreed to renew the popular free parking promotion, meaning motorists using the St Giles multi-storey car park in Elgin after 3pm over the Christmas period will not be charged.

The promotion is valid between the switching on of the Christmas lights and the first Saturday of the New Year (inclusive).

It’s hoped the promotion will continue to encourage residents and visitors to shop local and support high street businesses during the festivities.

Moray Council’s Chair of Economic Growth, Housing and Environmental Sustainability Committee, Cllr Graham Leadbitter, welcomed the decision.

He said: “Free After Three has been received very positively in past years by businesses and customers alike.

"I am pleased that councillors have backed the use of the scheme once again and also backed the use of the scheme in future years.

“This year, more than ever, we need to do what we can to support businesses.

"Christmas will be hugely important to get retailers into a better place after all the challenges of the past 18 months and this parking scheme over the festive period will help to support that.”
