THE team at a Moray craft distillery are in high spirits after their product was chosen to go on sale in a major supermarket.

Coirce, a Scottish vodka created by El:Gin, will feature in Aldi's upcoming Spirits of Scotland Festival.

The festival is now underway and is taking place in all 87 of the chain's Scottish stores.

It follows earlier celebrations when Coirce was awarded two stars at the 2019 Great Taste Awards.

Leah Miller, co-founder of El:Gin, said: "It's a pleasure to be working in partnership with Aldi on their first ever Spirits of Scotland festival.

"As a small craft distillery, it’s heartening to receive this kind of support from such a respected retailer, and we are over the moon that now more people across the country will get the chance to taste our unique vodka."

Coirce, the Gaelic word for oats, takes its name from the primary ingredient used in its production. El:Gin uses 100 per cent locally grown Speyside oats in their Coirce Vodka and this gives the product its distinctive, complex flavouring whilst adding a soft hint of creaminess.

Graham Nicolson, group buying director at Aldi Scotland, said: "Scotland is justifiably renowned the world over for its superb distilleries and over the years, their offerings have become more and more diverse and adventurous. As a result, Scotland is now home to a large number of dedicated distillers producing an exciting choice of flavourful and distinctive spirits and liqueurs.

"For our very first Spirits of Scotland festival, we’re pleased to bring together an enticing selection of gins, vodkas, whisky, rums and liqueurs, so our customers can taste the very best of what Scotland has to offer. To mark Aldi’s 25th year in Scotland, we are delighted to include El:Gin’s Coirce Vodka from the Moray-based distillers in this year’s Spirits of Scotland Festival.

"At Aldi, we’re proud to be at the forefront of supporting independent Scottish producers and we will continue to champion all elements of our country’s exceptional spirits industry."

The in-store festival will run while stocks last.
