A HOPEMAN drug driver has had his license disqualified after being caught in Elgin.
Appearing at Elgin Sheriff Court on December 22), Ryan Main (26) of Meadow Gardens, Hopeman was disqualified from driving for 12 months and received a £320 fine.
Fiscal Depute Sharon Ralph said Main was stopped by police on 16 November 2021 while travelling on the A96 in Elgin.
She said: “Police saw a Blue Vauxhall Corsa which seemed to be going a little too fast for the location.
“During the stop, they noted the accused to have a glazed demeanour.
“He was arrested after a sweep was conducted which then tested positive for cocaine."
Main was then taken to Kittybrewster Police Station where a drug test came back positive for Benzoylecgonine, the main toxic metabolite of cocaine.
The level of Benzoylecgonine detected was 188 micrograms per litre of blood, above the legal limit of 50 micrograms.
Sheriff David Harvie asked Main to explain his personal circumstances and the impact that losing his license would have on him.
Main said: “I’m currently self-employed, so having a licence is quite important.
“It would have an impact because I wouldn’t be able to work as often."
Asked what he could afford to repay after losing his license, Main suggested £100 a month.
Giving him credit for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity, Sheriff Harvie accepted this and reduced his fine from £420 to £320.
