TWO Moray health professionals have launched a new online service to help stroke survivors recover at home.

Neuro-physiotherapist Jude Simms and rehabilitation practitioner David Powney, from Forres, have developed the stroke rehabilitation service, Us V Stroke, which includes exercises, tutorials and resources, to help stroke patients improve and recover.

Mr Powney said there was "very little" support available prior to lockdown – a situation which has worsened since.

They aim to enhance quality of life for people who have suffered a stroke and want to continue to improve their movement.

The pair worked together at Move4ward at Moray College UHI in Elgin, specialising in neurological, orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation, before closure of the college and furloughing of staff.

Their online programme offers a regular one-to-one video consultation service with exclusive access to weekly online video resources, and includes rehabilitation exercises, gait and movement tutorials, product reviews, inspirational patient journeys and interviews with leading clinicians.

Mr Powney said: "We have designed the programme specifically for stroke recovery at home.

"Currently very little ongoing specialist support is available after discharge from hospital. This has been compounded by recent movement restrictions.

"We hope that our new online facility will allow patients and their families to access regular specialist support and guidance to aid in their recovery."
