Moray Emergency Relief Fund generates more than £20,000 in six days

THE Moray Emergency Relief Fund has taken in more than £20,000 in donations in just six days.
And the first crisis cash has been distributed to the first applicant.
Major General Seymour Monro, the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, revealed that a single mum with two young children who lost her job after lockdown but missed out on being furloughed, has been helped.
"She only asked for £70 which we thought was a bit low so we actually gave her £100," he said.
The woman had been left waiting for Universal Credit to kick in, with no income coming in.
"This is just the sort of person the fund was designed to help," added Mr Monro.
He has been overwhelmed at the response so far since the appeal was launched last Thursday, with donations ranging from £100 to £5000.
The open-ended fund will remain available for as long as there is a need in Moray.
It is designed to be a last resort for people who have been unable to tap into UK and Scottish Government funds and local council support.
"I would encourage people to apply for funding if they find themselves in serious need.
"We are so grateful for the generosity of people so far. This crisis is bringing out the best in those who are able to help fellow men and women in their hour of need," said Mr Monro.
Mr Monro and Andy Simpson, Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire, are among a group of trustees who will review each application on its merits.
There is no limit to the number of times an individual can apply to the fund for help.
