TWO of Moray’s leading independent financial planning firms have merged.

Elgin firm Watson & Campbell has joined forces with Lossiemouth’s Campbell & McConnachie Ltd following the retirement of director Willie Watson after more than 40 years in the business.

Watson & Campbell formed in 2000, when financial adviser Mr Watson invited Scott Campbell to partner with him. Together they developed a loyal client base across Moray and the Highlands.

Earlier this year, when Mr Watson announced he was stepping down, Mr Campbell accepted the invitation to merge the business with long-term associates Campbell & McConnachie.

Mr Campbell said: "Willie and I have enjoyed a long and successful partnership at our North Guildry Street offices.

"When considering my options for moving the business forward, Campbell & McConnachie were the perfect choice. They’re a forward-thinking company and the staff have been terrific. I’m very impressed.

"Our current clients have been informed and can expect a seamless service as we transition to the new team."

Campbell & McConnachie director Ross Davidson said: "We’ve known Willie and Scott for many years. Watson & Campbell are well-respected in the profession and share similar values to ourselves. With Willie retiring, it felt like a natural fit for Scott to join us."

Both firms have experienced a surge in business over the last year, as people review their long-term financial plans due to the pressures of the pandemic.

More recently, the acceleration of the housing market has meant a considerable increase in mortgage applications.

Watson & Campbell has closed its Elgin office. Mr Campbell is now based at the Shore Street premises, serving clients both virtually and face-to-face where necessary, trading as Campbell & McConnachie Ltd.

Meanwhile, financial planners Euan Lock and Jenny McKay have cemented their long-standing commitment to Campbell & McConnachie by becoming shareholders in the firm.

Director David McConachie said: "Jenny has been with us since 2005, and Euan since 2013.

"Each of them has shown outstanding dedication to their roles, with years of hard work, study and professional exams, advancing towards the highest level of excellence in the field of financial planning.

"We support all our staff with their career development goals, and I’m proud and delighted to welcome Euan and Jenny onto the management team as shareholders."
