BUDDING photographers from across Moray and the Highlands and Islands are being invited to Capture the Moment as part of a new competition.

Accountancy and business advisory business Johnston Carmichael has launched the scheme to celebrate the firm’s long-established relationships across the area.

The business was founded in Moray more than 80 years ago and its current Elgin office marks its 25th anniversary this year.

Its Inverness office, which has been operating for several decades, is also celebrating an anniversary after moving into its existing premises 10 years ago.

So photographers with a creative flair are being asked to capture and interpret the essence of one of the firm’s key sectors, which include agriculture, food and drink, hospitality and tourism and construction. Winners in each of the categories will receive a £250 cash prize and will have their work displayed in the Johnston Carmichael offices.

The competition is open to everyone and photographs can be taken with a camera or on a smartphone.

A judging panel including local photographers, journalists and artists, as well as Grenville Johnston, the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, and grandson of Bill Johnston, a co-founder of Johnston Carmichael, will assess entries based on their creativity and technical skills.

Scott Jeffrey, audit partner for Johnston Carmichael, said: "Johnston Carmichael’s history is rooted deep in Moray and the Highlands, and both regions have played an important part in the growth of our business.

"It’s an exciting opportunity to celebrate that relationship by asking our local communities to be part of this photography competition and to highlight the varied sectors we work across."

Lenny Smith, photography lecturer at the University of the Highlands and Islands and judge, said: "The Scottish Highlands have a great reputation for producing amazing and world-renowned artistic talent and this competition will provide a great opportunity for up and coming photographers of all ages to hone their skills and celebrate the diversity of the region.”

Visit johnstoncarmichael.com/capture-the-moment for further information. Entries must be made by October 25.
