A Moray-based infrastructure firm has won two major prizes at a top industry awards gala.

Robertson was named Contractor of the Year (turnover over £500 million) at the Construction News Awards amid stern competition from other industry heavyweights.

Judges praised the company's approach and said Robertson 'displayed a very clear and deeply authentic commitment to its business, communities in which it worked and its supply chain'.

The event, held on Thursday night in London, also saw Robertson win in the Project of the Year (over £50 million) category for the Macallan Distillery.

Robertson served as main contractor on the £140 million distillery and visitor centre in Speyside for Edrington.

Completed last year, Robertson worked with 25 contractors to bring the architectural vision to life.

The company was also Highly Commended in the Project of the Year (Under £20 million) category for its work at Spanish City in Whitley Bay. The £10 million restoration work was carried out for North Tyneside Council and saw the transformation of a declining waterfront building.

Elliot Robertson, chief operating officer at Robertson, said: "To win two major awards and be highly commended in another category is testament to the incredible people within our business who are doing fantastic work each and every day.

"We are immeasurably proud of our work at The Macallan and Spanish City, two genuinely iconic projects.

"They were successful because of our commitment to working closely with our customers and partners to get the right result – an approach we take with all projects, regardless of size or scale. Outstanding service and amazing teams are the cornerstone of our business and I am so proud to see that recognised at such a prestigious awards ceremony."

Bill Robertson founded the company in Elgin over 50 years ago. It is now one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services business in the UK.
