MORAY Food Plus has helped hundreds of people close to home struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and rising bills.

People can pay whatever they feel.

The charity, which provides a lifeline service to people across the district, will turn its focus to people in Türkiye and Syria this weekend for a special event.

A soup and sweet lunch from 11.30am-1.30pm in Elgin Town Hall on Saturday, April 1 will be raising money for the Disasters Emergency Committee earthquake appeal.

Entry is free but the charity is asking for a donation of any size towards the appeal. On the day there will be two soups and two puddings to choose from including a vegan and gluten free option.

Mairi McCallum, project manager of Moray Food Plus, said: "Although the earthquakes happened in February we have not forgotten the devastation and loss of life that has affected Türkiye and Syria.

"With over 50,000 people dead, 214,000 buildings and homes destroyed and 18 million people living in the area, many in need of medical aid, food and shelter, staff and volunteers at Moray Food Plus wanted to do something to help.

"We would encourage anyone to pop along to Elgin Town Hall on Saturday for a homemade meal, a chance to catch-up with friends, and raise some much-needed funds for a worthy cause."
