MORAY councillors have voted to extend a partnership with Active Schools.
On Wednesday (November 2), Moray Council's education committee agreed to another four years of Active Schools partnership.
The move will cost £979,077, but the Council will profit from a government investment of £1,185,928 as a result.
Active Schools is a national program organised by Sport Scotland to improve sporting opportunities for children.
Councillors praised the impact Active Schools opportunities have already had on Moray.
Councillor Neil Cameron said: "I can't commend your work enough.
"The benefits of Active Schools' work is immeasurable."
The report shown to committee, however, showed that only 26 per cent of eligible pupils participated in Active Schools activities.
Councillor Tracy Coyler quizzed Roy McPherson, active schools and community sport officer, about the low uptake.
In response, Mr McPherson said the Covid-19 pandemic had a severe impact on uptake, but he was taking steps to get more pupils involved.
He said: "The 26 per cent figure, in previous years, has been up to 40-50 per cent and we're well on our way to getting back there."
Councillors also opted to move towards providing free Fit Life gym memberships for children living in poverty.
