A hairdresser has been banned from driving after she crashed her car having smoked cannabis.

Police were called to Wards Road in Elgin at 6.40pm on June 8 last year.

They found a silver Skoda which had collided into a wall.

By the absence of skid marks they deduced that the vehicle had drifted across the road.

Abigail Sherwin was standing by the car.

Officers described her as struggling to hold a conversation.

When asked to identify the driver of the vehicle, she replied: "Me".

Defence lawyer Grant Dalgleish said his client's young son had passed away a few weeks before and she had been struggling with her mental health.

He added that she had not smoked cannabis on the day, but the drug was still in her system.

Mr Dalgleish also told Elgin Sheriff Court that his client had never been in trouble before.

The 27-year-old defendant, who lives in Robertson Road, Lhanbryde, admitted a charge of driving while under the influence.

Sheriff Peter Grant-Hutchison fined her £150 and imposed a one-year ban.

Commenting on the accident and the fact nobody had been hurt, the sheriff commented: "That could have been so much worse."
