A heroin dealer was caught after he was badly hurt in a motorbike crash in Elgin.

Garry Collie was involved in an accident on Thornhill Road back in July 2019.

As he lay seriously injured, paramedics cut a rucksack free from him in order to deliver medical help.

The rucksack was then handed to police officers who had arrived at the scene.

Speaking at Inverness Sheriff Court today, fiscal depute Alex Swain said that the zip was open and officers could see inside.

A brown taped package plus a bag containing brown powder were both on view.

A total of £1556.30 of cash was then also discovered inside another bag.

Collie was not charged at the time.

Instead he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated for a broken leg and a badly damaged knee.

Analysis later revealed a total of 511.5 grams of heroin, with a maximum street value of £25,210.

Ms Swain said it was a year before Collie was able to make his first appearance in court.

The 38-year-old, who lives in Duncan Drive, Elgin, admitted being concerned in the supply of the class A drug.

Sheriff Gary Aitken deferred sentence until July 2 for a background report.

Defence solicitor Stephen Carty reserved his comments until then and Collie's bail was continued.
