The Moray Big Build Challenge, launched by DYW Moray in conjunction with the Construction Sector Group, tasked young people with recreating either a local or Scottish landmark by using fully recyclable materials.

Despite the challenge being in its first year, 12 schools and over 400 pupils participated, recreating landmarks such as Nelson's Tower and the Queensferry Crossing.

All schools were invited to attend a showcase event during STEM Week on Friday, March 24 at UHI Moray with local employers and construction lecturers to celebrate their achievements.

Bethany Welsh from Balfour Beatty, Diane Kemp from Springfield, and Hazel Fraser from The Training Folk selected winners from P1-P4, P5-P7 and Secondary School ASN Departments.

That saw Newmill Primary School P1/2, Greenwards Primary School P5 and Keith Grammar School ASN win their respective categories.

Jackie Andrews, UHI Moray Head of Academic Partnerships, said: "UHI Moray is delighted to be a part of such an exciting challenge. From a simple discussion with partners, the outcome speaks for itself."

Carinne Taylor, DYW School Coordinator, added: “It has been fantastic to bring the Big Build Challenge to Moray in collaboration with local construction employers.

"All the builds that have been submitted are brilliant, and really show what talented and innovative young people we have here in Moray who will one day be part of our local workforce."

She added: "Following the success of the Moray Big Build Challenge, we will look to make this an annual challenge with our Primary and Secondary Schools. Next year will be bigger and better."
