WITH the Buckie by-election date set for November 3, the Moray Lib Dems have announced their new Buckie manifesto, a special set of pledges specific to the people in the Buckie and a plan which will help the wider Moray area.

If elected, candidate Les Tarr has pledged to propose all new schemes on the manifesto at Moray Council.

As a result of the uncontested election in May, this is the first time in nearly six years the people of Buckie have had a say on who represents them at Moray Council. The party hopes that by presenting a local manifesto, voters in the area will finally be able to judge their candidates properly.

The manifesto includes supporting the replacement of Buckie Community High School, a topic that has proved controversial in recent Moray Council meetings. In addition, if elected Mr Tarr would propose new after-school clubs to support working adults across Moray as well as review local mental health services, following closures of in-person clinics in the area.

He also pledges to use his 10 years’ experience working with unions to support key workers.

Mr Tarr said: “My focus is on Buckie and its residents, since the May elections the parties seem to have forgotten why they are there, focusing on party in-fighting and promoting independence.

"What Buckie needs is a councillor who will focus on the needs of local residents.

"Buckie needs a new High School to be a centre of excellence for education. Buckie also needs improved wrap-around childcare facilities to help working families by having safe locations where their children can be catered for.”

Neil Alexander, Convener of the Moray Liberal Democrats, commented: “This manifesto is a bold new plan for Buckie.

"Les has a clear vision for what he would bring to Moray Council and these plans would benefit the wider Moray area. Buckie needs a councillor that will put the area first, not divisive cross-party squabbles. Lib Dems believe in supporting local communities and that’s what this manifesto represents.”

Also contesting the by-election are: Tim Eagle (Scottish Conservative and Unionist); Keighly Goudie (Scottish Labour Party); Neil Houlden; John Stuart (Scottish National Party (SNP).
