A Moray man has appeared in court for drunkenly following a complete stranger down the street and shouting and swearing at him.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that the stranger left home on May 15 last year to go to the service station on the town's Main Street.

Shane Rollo began following him as he walked past the junction of Croft Road and Bezack Street.

Procurator Fiscal Victoria Silver said: "The accused shouted towards the witness in a manner which suggested that he knew him.

"The witness though he must be mistaking him for someone else and walked away.

"The accused proceeded to follow him and continued to shout and swear at him."

Ms Silver stated that the witness crossed the road and went into the service station.

However when he came back out again Rollo was waiting outside.

The witness deliberately walked back another way but Rollo continued to follow him.

When the witness got home he contacted the police.

A police officer arrived on the scene and saw Rollo "pacing around in an aggressive manner".

After a second officer arrived, they both approached.

The court heard that Rollo was talking incoherently, but at one point said he was going to kill somebody.

He then threatened to kill one of the two officers.

Rollo pleaded guilty to acting in a threatening manner.

Defence solicitor Iain Maltman stated that the 35-year-old had little memory of the offence but deeply regretted his actions.

The lawyer added that, at the time, his client had been breaking up with his partner.

According to court papers, Rollo used to live on Manitoba Avenue, Elgin, but now stays on Dunbar Street, Lossiemouth.

He was placed under the court's supervision for the next year and ordered to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work for the community.
