A MAN who lives in Dufftown has been placed on the Sex Offender's Register after indecent images of children were found on his phone.

Police obtained a warrant to search 40-year-old Sergio Costa's home last year.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that on August 10, officers went to Costa's address at Hillside Avenue in the Speyside village, and took possession of his phone and other electronic devices.

However, fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that Costa refused to provide the police with the pin codes to access his devices and an expert had to be called in to bypass his security.

In total, over 50 images and two videos were discovered on the devices. They all showed boys and girls aged between four and 14, some of which contained children engaged in sexual activity, Mr Weir said.

Mr Weir added: "Some had been shared on a group chat but he didn't share them."

Sentence was deferred until August 28 for a background report.
