Police were called to Keith at around 12am on February 20 this year after an unidentified man was spotted in a garden.

Upon arrival, officers tried to stop Darren Williams who became "uncooperative" before trying to walk away.

One police officer tried to stop him before Williams threw a "closed fist" which connected with the officer's cheek.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that Williams then "violently resisted" after another officer brought him down and that he attempted to bite the officer's hand but failed to make contact.

Williams was remanded in custody for seven days.

Defence solicitor Grant Daglish said his client's memory of what happened was "vague" adding that he had come off his medication at the time of the incident.

He said that while Williams' memory of what happened is hazy, he accepts that it did happen and that he admits his conduct was not acceptable.

Mr Daglish added that Williams is keen to apologise to the officers in person.

Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov handed Williams a community payback order to be completed within 12 months.
