David Robertson (42) plead guilty to two counts of abusive behaviour at Elgin Sheriff Court.

The court heard that sometime between between January 2015 and December 2016, Robertson had come home after a night of drinking and began shouting at his wife. He then grabbed her by her hair and forced her head down towards the hob rings on the kitchen cooker.

During another incident, taking place between July 2014 and July 2015, Robertson also assaulted a child by picking them up under the arms and pushing them against a wall.

Defence solicitor Grant Dalgleish said his client "cannot remember the incidents" adding that "alcohol was a significant factor, the offences happened a number of years ago now and he has addressed his issues with alcohol himself."

Sheriff David Sutherland fined Robertson £520 and a two year non-harassment order was put in place.
