MORAY looks set to have missed the worst of the heavy winds and rain that have battered much of the UK.

Very high winds affected much of central and southern Scotland yesterday as the after effects of Hurricane Katia moved in, while heavy rain hit parts of the west.

The Met Office issued a series of amber warnings, with wind speeds of 70-80mph hitting parts of Scotland. Moray had the lesser yellow warnings, but these have now been removed.

While the worst of the wind missed Moray, however, there have been reports this morning of some localised flooding at the Findhorn Foundation.

Despite there being numerous flood warnings still in place across Scotland, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) currently has no such alerts for any area of Moray.

A Met Office spokesman said the strongest winds have affected parts of Northern Ireland, the central lowlands, southern Scotland and parts of northern England.

Prolonged rain in areas of Moray is predicted for today, but without significant winds. Gusts of up to 40mph may be experienced tomorrow.
