A disqualified driver has had his ban extended by four months after he was caught on the roads.

The police responded to a call from a member of the public on June 22 last year stating Robert Coffield was using a vehicle.

Officers caught up with the 51-year-old in the Tecco car park at Forres later that same day.

He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court on Thursday.

In addition, he admitted another charge that the vehicle's MOT had been two months out of date.

The court heard that Coffield had originally been disqualified in December 2022.

Defence solicitor Stephen Carty stated that following the ban his client had come up with an arrangement to get to and from work.

Ordinarily, a colleague who lived nearby would use Coffield's car to drive them both.

However, the solicitor added, the car had been undergoing work at a garage.

On the day of the offence Coffield had opted to pick it up and drive himself to work.

Mr Carty described it as a "one-off situation", when his client had decided to "take a chance".

In addition to the extra four-month ban Coffield, of Wyvis Drive, Nairn, was also fined £400.
