Moray's Conservative MP Douglas Ross has announced he will vote for Boris Johnson in the second round of the leadership election today.

In a tweet this morning, Mr Ross announced his support for the front-runner, who looks a dead cert to become the United Kingdom's next Prime Minister.

In the first round of voting, Moray's MP voted for Mark Harper. However, he was one of only ten (3.2% of MPs) to do so as Mr Harper was eliminated from the contest with the second least amount of votes out of all ten competitors.

This has left Mr Ross weighing up his options, but he has now made his intentions clear.

He said: "Later today I'll vote in the second round of the Leadership Election. Since the first round result I've spoken with many of the candidates and decided, with the breadth of support they have across the party and their vision for the future of our country, today I will @BackBoris."

Boris Johnson comfortably won the first round of voting, which is currently limited just to Conservative MPs, with the second round due to take place today.

The candidate of the remaining six who gets the least votes will be eliminated, along with anyone failing to get 33 votes. Candidates are Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab, Sajid Javid and Rory Stewart.

In the first round of voting, Johnson got 114 votes, Hunt 43, Gove 37, Raab 27, Javid 23 and Stewart 19.

All six will appear on a BBC debate show tonight ahead of further ballots, before the number remaining is down to two. At this point, Tory members will choose the next Prime Minister.
