Douglas Ross has written to the Post Office to ask about the future of the Craigellachie branch.

.

The branch closed on March 19 – four days before the lockdown.

A note was placed on the window advising that this was due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Ross said: "There was an issue relating to the current covid pandemic, which meant the Post Office had to temporarily close the Craigellachie branch.

"The Chair of the local community council got in touch outlining their request to the Post Office for a larger post box outside the current facility as all the surrounding post boxes could only take small letter sized envelopes.

"They also sought a date for re-opening.

"The response from the Post Office left more unanswered questions with mention of the completion of an 'external consultation period' before making a final decision.

"It also seems there is a similar situation with the Glenlivet Post Office.

"I’ve now raised this issue on behalf of the local communities with the Post Office, seeking clarity for people in Speyside on the circumstances of these closures.

"People are also asking for the re-opening dates, as well as what temporary measures will be implemented to help those needing to post items in the interim period."

Speyside Community Council Chairperson, Marion Ross, said: "All we are looking for at this point is some clarity around the closure and when the facility is likely to re-open, plus the replacement of the current small post box to one that can take larger envelopes."
