A statement from Mr Lochhead said: “Earlier this week, following a few days of feeling ill, I was admitted to Dr Gray’s Hospital.

“I am currently being looked after by their excellent medical teams. For now, I need to take some time to focus on getting well and back on my feet again.

“In the meantime, my constituency team will continue to take forward any casework on behalf of my Moray constituents and are, as always, available to anyone in Moray requiring assistance.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the clinicians at Dr Gray’s for the exceptional care I’ve received in recent days.

“Knowing the kindness of many people in Moray as I do, I’m aware that some will wish to get in touch to offer their good wishes as I recover.

“For the time being, I’m not able to respond to messages and would ask that those wishing to get in touch do so via my constituency office.

“I look forward to getting back to working, in due course, on behalf of the people of Moray just as soon as I’ve recovered from this period of illness.”
